City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment
If you have a passion for the outdoors and want to gain a better understanding of how to protect and manage countryside and our environment this could be the course for you.
This course provides you with a formal qualification to help you build a career by introducing you to the values behind environmental management and conservation and helping you learn about natural habitats.
Available as a distance learning qualification all course materials will be supplied via our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) so you can study and a time, and in a location that suits you. Support will be provided by an allocated distance learning tutor too. This study combines with you working or volunteering in a suitable environment to help you progress your career within the industry.

To study this countryside and environment qualification you do not need to attend college; this makes the course suitable for anyone!
Duration
It is anticipated that this course will take you 12 months to complete providing it is studied on a full-time basis. With the course being able to be started at any time the result is that you can start your journey to becoming qualified and boost your career prospects today!
Entry Requirements
If you have a good level of numeracy, literacy and ICT skills combined with a passion and drive to learn about the countryside and environment you have the basic requirements needed to begin this course. Note that this course is delivered in English and therefore you must have sufficient English reading and writing skills.
The only additional factor that you need to consider is your work experience. You need to be either employed, or volunteering within a relevant placement for at least 3 hours per week. Overall you will need to have completed 150 hours to achieve your qualification and you must have a suitable witness (someone who has a minimum of 2 years’ experience in industry) who is able to assess your practical assignments.
Before applying for this course it is important to recognise that is physically demanding. Therefore if you have any concerns about being able to complete the required practical work please discuss these with a medical advisor.
Content
This flexible course combines both practical experience with distance learning study to allow you to gain a recognised qualification. Throughout this course you will cover the following modules:
- Introduction to Countryside Access and Recreation
- Undertaking Ecological Surveys
- Conservation and Improvement of British Habitats
- Introduction to Urban Habitat Ecology
- Undertake Work Related Experience in the Land-based Industries
- Environmental and Land-based Business

You will be assessed throughout this course by undertaking both written and practical assessments.
Fees
The total cost for this course is £1,004.
This can be paid before beginning the course or it can be paid monthly via our ‘Pay As You Learn Scheme’. This is a fee of £84 per month until you are certificated.
In addition to the above fee you are also required to pay an Awarding Body Fee. This is £132.60* for City & Guilds registration and certification fees.
